The implementation of three projects, funded by the government of Japan, completed recently in Sogd region of Tajikistan.

According to the Embassy of Japan in Tajikistan, these projects, totaling more than $301 thousand, were carried out in the areas of Mountain Matcha and Devashtich, as well as in the city of Panjakent of Sughd region.

Projects are implemented under the Program of grant aid for the wider population and human security (GGP).

These projects were aimed at providing heavy equipment, construction of a women's center and building a new school.

So, Hukumat of Gorno-Matcha district was given a grant of more than $97,6 thousand for the acquisition of heavy road equipment, clearing roads of debris, clearing of irrigation channels and strengthening of banks of local rivers.

The Embassy noted that the new technique can provide more secure environment and improve conditions for local residents thanks to the well-repaired roads and irrigation channels.

Public organization "Zanoni Sharq" in Penjakent received more than $100,3 thousand for the construction of women's center that will provide social, legal and psychological assistance to women in need and children who are at risk for exposure to violence. The new center will also give the opportunity to targeted groups to get professional education and pass computer and language courses.

Local government authority of Devashtich district was provided with a grant of $103.1 thousand for the construction of additional school building No. 15. New building consists of 8 classrooms, staff room and principal's office that now allows students to learn in a more comfortable and safe conditions.
