The Government has ordered the Communications Service to improve speed and quality of Internet connection in the country.
By government’s decree of February 3, 2020 on the results of socioeconomic development of Tajikistan in 2019 and tasks for 2020 the communications service agency is ordered to take measures to ensure an efficient activity of the country’s communications system.
According to the Tajik state-run news agency Khovar, the Communications Service, in particular, is ordered to install the state-of-the-art fiber optic equipment, improve speed and quality of Internet connection and ensure access to communications services.
In an address to a joint session of both houses of parliament, President Emomali Rahmon on December 26, 2019 harshly criticized the low speed of Internet connection in the country.
Tajikistan’s internet continues to get slower, ranking among the worst in the world. The state’s censors and their self-dealing appear to be the reason. International experts note that of all the previous Soviet republics, Tajikistan’s telecommunication systems were least developed. With the telecom network which was near the total collapse, government had daunting task of being able to bring it up to the modern standards. Well, despite launch of the 4G/ the LTE services, overall telecom sector has progressed to have struggles. Tajikistan has one of the tiniest fixed line penetrations in Asian region as well as one of lowest broadband levels of the broadband penetration.
