The Emergencies Committee under the Government of Tajikistan is warning citizens and visitors of the country that from January 17 to 20, rain and snow are forecasted in the foothill and mountainous areas of the country, as well as in the city of Dushanbe.

“In most mountainous areas of the districts subordinate to the center, heavy precipitation, a drop in temperature, and fog are expected.  On the roads of Dushanbe–Chanak, Dushanbe–Rasht–Lakhsh, Nourobod–Sangvor, and Dushanbe–Khorog, there is a continued risk of avalanches, ice, and rockslides,” the Emergencies Committee reports.

In light of this, the Emergencies Committee urges citizens to strictly follow fire safety rules when using electric heaters, avoid using homemade electric heaters, be cautious when using stoves, check chimney vents, and not leave children unattended.

“In order to prevent road accidents, the Emergencies Committee asks the public to be cautious when using mountain roads, prepare their vehicles for travel, refrain from visiting hazardous areas, firewood harvesting, and exercise maximum caution when conducting agricultural work in foothill and mountainous areas.  Livestock should not be grazed in mountain pastures.  We do not recommend mountain hikes for tourist companies,” the statement reads.
