According to data from the Agency for Statistics under the President of Tajikistan, the unemployment rate in December 2024 was only 1.9%. The country's workforce consists of 2.7 million people, of which 98.1% are reportedly employed in the economy.
There are officially 51,400 registered unemployed individuals, which is 6.3% more than in December 2023.
However, the actual employment situation in the country differs from the official data.
For example, according to the World Bank, the unemployment rate in Tajikistan is 11.5%, and the country ranks second to last in the CIS on this indicator.
In the country, there is a shortage of highly skilled jobs, and the available vacancies often offer low wages. As a result, many Tajik citizens seek work abroad—currently, more than one million citizens of the country are in migration, where they, despite the difficulties, can find higher-paying jobs than in their home country.
