Tajikistan and Russia have agreed to establish a training and methodological center in Tajikistan to prepare future labor migrants for temporary employment in the Russian Federation.  This initiative was a key topic at the latest meeting of the bilateral working group overseeing the implementation of the agreement between the two countries on labor migration.

The meeting took place in Sochi, Russia during the International Occupational Safety Week and was co-chaired by Sharif Norzoda, Deputy Minister of Labor, Migration and Employment of the Population of Tajikistan, and Denis Vasilyev, Deputy Head of the Federal Labor and Employment Service of Russia (Rostrud).

During the session, both sides discussed a range of topics related to the bilateral agreement, including:

• Conducting preliminary medical examinations for migrants in Tajikistan;
• Organizing a comprehensive exam on Russian language, history, and legal fundamentals to support better integration;
• Operation of the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs’ “Passport and Visa Service” office in Tajikistan; 
• Development of a dedicated training base to prepare migrants;
• Introduction of new digital tools developed in Russia to simplify migration procedures;
• Addressing pressing socio-legal issues affecting Tajik labor migrants.

The two sides emphasized the importance of strengthening cooperation in migration management and underlined the need to improve social protection, legal support, and information access for Tajik citizens working in Russia.

It is noteworthy that in May 2024, the Passport and Visa Service of Russia’s Interior Ministry opened its representative office in Dushanbe.  The center allows Tajik citizens to undergo fingerprinting and entry-ban checks prior to departure, streamlining the pre-migration process.
