Iran is cooperating with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) within the framework of the Treaty on Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT) and its nuclear facilities are open for inspections, Deputy Chairman of the Iranian Atomic Energy Organisation (AEO) Mohammad Saeedi said, the official IRNA news agency reported on Thursday. He commented on a new IAEA report on the Iranian dossier that was circulated in Vienna on Wednesday.
“Tehran will cooperate with the IAEA comprehensively and constructively in accordance with its legal obligations,” the official stressed. “The new report (of the agency’s Director-General) Mohammed ElBaradei has proved the fact that Iran and IAEA are maintaining relations within the NPT framework,” Saeedi added.
“In accordance with the Non-Proliferation Treaty and safeguards agreement, the Islamic Republic has provided the necessary access for the IAEA inspectors to its nuclear facilities,” Saeedi added. “So it will in the future,” he noted.
Touching upon UN Security Council’s demands to Iran to suspend its uranium enrichment activities, as well as statements to the effect that Iran had allegedly conducted research in the sphere of military nuclear technologies, the AEO deputy head noted that “Tehran has totally fulfilled (the so-called) working plan (aimed at settling IAEA claims), therefore no questions exist any longer on this matter.” “Now the agency can turn to us with any inquiry within the NPT framework and safeguards agreement,” the official stated.
