Russia will be able to restore its strategic security, if it is upset by the deployment of US missile defense components in Eastern Europe, the prime minister’s press-secretary, Dmitry Peskov, told the Voice of Russia radio station.
He recalled that the United States kept claiming future missile defense facilities in Poland and the Czech Republic would counter likely threats from Iran.
“In the meantime, our analysts and analysts in some other countries are saying that in technical terms such a threat does not exist and it should not be expected to emerge in the near future, so Iran’s work on nuclear arms cannot be used as a pretext,” Peskov said.
“Our military experts are certain that the real target of the missile defense plans is the Russian strategic potential,” the prime minister’s secretary said. “Regrettably, in case the deployment becomes a reality, Russia will have to reciprocate. If and when Russia’s strategic security is abused, everything will be done to restore it.”
Peskov recalled that earlier Vladimir Putin during his presidency invited the United States to create a joint missile defense system using the Gabala radar in Azerbaijan.
Also, Putin mentioned another missile defense, the one in southern Russia, in Armavir.
Russia these days is receiving more constructive messages from the United States than before.
“If the United States really considers all aspects of the issues and makes a decision accommodating the interests of third countries, including Russia, that would be in the interests of the United States, Russia and the entire European continent,” Peskov said.
