The American Veterans Day was originally established to mark the end of combat operations in Europe on November 11, 1918, and was first known in the U.S. as Armistice Day, BBC’s Russian Service reported on May 2.

But after World War II and the Korean War, this commemorative date was decided to dedicate the day to honoring all U.S. military veterans.

Memorial Day, observed in the U.S. on the last Monday of May, is dedicated to honoring Americans who died in combat.

Trump has not specified exactly how the two new holidays he proposed -- Victory Day in World War I and Victory Day in World War II -- should be celebrated, although he previously floated the idea of holding a military parade in Washington on those days to honor American service members.

Meanwhile, the White House has announced plans to hold a military parade on June 14 — in honor of the 250th anniversary of the founding of the U.S. Army.

That same day, President Trump will celebrate his 79th birthday.
