DUSHANBE, April 13, 2011, Asia-Plus -- The Majlisi Namoyandagon (Tajikistan’s lower chamber of parliament) endorsed a bill requiring amendments to the country’s law on waste from consumption and production at an April 13 meeting. The bill tightens responsibility of local authorities for environmental security.
Speaking on this subject, MP Akramsho Felaliyev noted that with the beginning of the state-owned privatization campaign many abandoned wastes have appeared in the country. “This type of wastes poses a serious threat to a fragile environmental balance in the country, while nobody assumes the responsibility for recycling those wastes,” he stressed.
Under the new law, local authorities will be responsible for recycling these wastes, the MP added.
In the meantime, MP Shodi Shabdolov noted that the country’s authorities now thought only about negative effects of the production waste. “But nobody thinks about a profit that could be get out of production waste recycling,” Shabdolov said.
The Majlisi Namoyandagon Speaker Shukurjon Zuhurov noted that the precise amount of radioactive waste in Tajikistan has not yet been determined. “The problem of recycling energy-saving light bulbs has also not been solved so far, while it may become serious problem for society tomorrow,” the speaker noted.
