DUSHANBE, April 13, 2011, Asia-Plus  -- On Wednesday April 13, members of the Majlisi Namoyandagon (Tajikistan’s lower chamber of parliament) endorsed amendments to the country’s administrative code.

The bill requiring amendments to the administrative code provides for imposition of administrative action upon officials for ignoring rulings handed down by the Commissioner for Human Rights (Ombudsman).

“Established in 2009, the National Human Rights Institution (Ombudsman institution) of Tajikistan still needs thorough support from the government, parliament and society,” noted MP Ubaidullo Davlatov.  “I am sure that amendments made to the administrative code will promote improvement of work of the Ombudsman institution in our country.”

He added that Tajik National Human Rights Institution planned to open its offices in administrative centers of Gorno Badakhshan, Khatlon and Sughd provinces in the near future.
