DUSHANBE, July 21, 2011, Asia-Plus  -- The Majlisi Milli (Tajikistan’s upper chamber of parliament) today elected judges of the Supreme Court and the Higher Economic Court of Tajikistan.

Ms. Dilorom Abdurahimova, formerly deputy chairperson of the court in Dushanbe’s Sino district, Ms. Alifmoh Yorakova, formerly judge at the court in Dushanbe’s Sino district, and Mirzoali Karimov, formerly judge at the Dushanbe city court, were elected judges of the Supreme Court.

Ms. Zebunisso Abdulloyeva, who had previously served as deputy chairperson of the court in Dushanbe’s Ismoili Somoni district, was elected judge of the Higher Economic Court of Tajikistan.

We will recall that under the Constitution of Tajikistan,  the powers of the Majlisi Milli include: the election and recall of the chairman, deputy chairmen, and judges of the Constitutional Court, Supreme Court, and Higher Economic Court upon the recommendation of the President; deciding questions of the repeal of inviolability of the chairman, deputy chairmen, and judges of the Constitutional Court, Supreme Court, and Higher Economic Court; giving consent to the appointment and relieving of the Procurator General and his deputies; and effectuation of other powers to be determined by the Constitution and by laws.
