DUSHANBE, December 25, 2013, Asia-Plus – Tajik state-run insurance company, Tojiksughurta, and Russia’s Insurance House have signed an agreement on insuring Tajik labor migrants working in the Russian Federation.

“Beginning on January 1, 2014, labor migrants, in particular those working in construction sector, will must have insurance policies,” an official source at Tojiksughurta told Asia-Plus in an interview.

According to him, the insurance policies will be issued for three months, six months, nine months, and twelve months.

Conclusion of an insurance contract is not yet compulsory condition and migrant workers may apply directly to Tojiksughurta in Tajikistan, its offices in the Russian Federation, or Insurance house’s office in Russia, the source added.    

We will recall that Russia is expected to introduce a mandatory health insurance for foreign migrant workers beginning on January 1, 2014.  The Russian government has reportedly endorsed the amendment to the Labor Code requiring foreign labor migrants to get health insurance.
