DUSHANBE, January 10, 2014, Asia-Plus – The Delegation of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) to Tajikistan presents the animation film ‘Two Girls’ to Tajik society in order to draw attention of the society to the problems of sex trafficking.

Translated into Tajik, this short animated film follows the stories of two young women.  ‘Two Little Girls’ is reportedly aimed directly at young women in East Europe who are in danger of being sex trafficked.  The film was made in consultation with a group of Albanian women who were trafficked to the UK and rescued by the Poppy Project.

The film has been screened by national and local TV stations in Albania, Macedonia, Moldova and Bulgaria reaching an estimated audience of more than 4 Million people.

The number of direct beneficiaries in the countries where the Two Little Girls campaign is rolled out is so far estimated at 16,000.

Two Little Girls has been used as a central point for discussion in workshops with young people in schools and social institutions, teacher training courses, and for journalists, lawyers and education specialists.

Trafficking exists in countries all over the world and is an underground, illegal activity, sometimes connected to organized crime. Those affected by trafficking are a ''hidden population'', difficult to access, identify and count. Every year thousands of women and children are trafficked globally for sexual exploitation.  Sex trafficking is reportedly worth $12 billion a year to the criminals who trade in women''s misery.
