DUSHANBE, February 3, 2014, Asia-Pus -- In 2013, Tajikistan produced some 385,000 tons of cement, according to the Antimonopoly Agency under the Government of Tajikistan.
The Yovon cement plant that was introduced into operation in late September last year produced some nearly 287,000 tons of cement, which is 75 percent of the overall volume of cement produced in Tajikistan last year.
Operated by Tajikistan-China joint venture, Huaxin Gayur Cement Co., Ltd, this coal-powered enterprise now produces two types of cement – M-400 and M-500.
534 people, with 80 percent of them being Tajik nations, now work with the cement plant located in the Yovon district, Khatlon province.
Putting the plant in commission reportedly led to the decrease in cement prices in Tajikistan, the source added. The price of one kilogram of cement has reportedly fallen from 1.20 somoni to 0.80 somoni.
The latest technologies were reportedly used to build the Yovon cement plant with annual capacity of one million tons. The plant meets regional environmental requirements.
Huaxin Gayur Cement Co., Ltd was established by Huaxin Zhongya Investment (Wuhan) Co., Ltd, the subsidiary of Huaxin Cement Co., Ltd, and Gayur Limited Liability Company.
Huaxin Zhongya Investment (Wuhan) Investment Co., Ltd assumes the 75% ownership interest and Gayur Limited Liability Company owns 25 percent of the shares in Huaxin Gayur Cement Co., Ltd.
Meanwhile, Open Joint-Stock Company (OJSC) Tojikcement (Dushanbe cement plant) produced only some 38,000 tons of cement last year. The remaining 62,000 tons of cement were produced by nine other cement producing enterprises.
Tajikistan’s annual requirements in cement have sharply increased in connection with construction of the Roghun hydroelectric power plant (HPP), highways and other facilities of the nationwide significance.
