DUSHANBE, March 15, 2014, Asia-Plus – Japan’s Embassy in Dushanbe reports that aiming at improving conditions of the various sectors in Tajikistan, the Government of Japan will start providing assistance for new projects.
These projects are fully funded through the framework of Japan’s Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects (GGP) and will be taking place throughout the country.
On March 14, Mr. Hiroyuki Imahashi, Ambassador, Embassy of Japan in Dushanbe, signed grant contracts for five GGP projects.
With the grant assistance from the Government of Japan, these five projects will be conducted by the people of Tajikistan.
“The Project for Improvement of Liver and Pancreatic Surgical Department of Tajikistan Gastroenterology Hospital”, signed with Ms. Saodat Azimova, Director of Tajikistan Gastroenterology Hospital, with the total amount of US$ 111,283, will greatly benefit the patients with new medical equipment. A series of novel devices and equipment will be tremendously beneficial to all the gastroenterological surgeries performed at the hospital.
“The Project for Construction of Greenhouses in Sepula Village, Poshkent Jamoat, Istaravshan City” signed with Mr. Ibrohim Abdullozoda, Mayor of Istaravshan City, for the total amount of US$ 119,555, will provide the villagers with 6 new greenhouses, which will generate higher yield of agricultural products throughout the year. The project will also create a well for drinking water for the village residents.
“The Project for Construction of Secondary School No.29 in Saadi Sherozi Village of Vakhsh District”, signed with Mr. Barotali Yusupov, Chairperson of Vakhsh District, for the total amount of US$ 109,910, will provide a new learning facility for 242 students from 1st to 8th grades. Currently, the secondary school students attend school in neighboring village. With the completion of this project, all of the primary and secondary school students will be able to study together in the new school building.
“The Project for Construction of New Building for Regional Hospital No.3 in Mehnatobod Village, Roudaki Jamoat, Vose District”, signed with Mr. Rustam Latipov, Chairperson of Vose District, for the total amount of US$ 110,699, will construct a new, modern building for the hospital. Upon completion, the new hospital building will also be equipped with new medical equipment provided by the Local Authority of Vose District, which will further heighten the medical standards of the hospital.
“The Project for Rehabilitation of the Pediatrics Department and Provision of Medical Equipment at Central Hospital of Darvoz District”, signed with Mr. Saidburhoni Saidrahmon Abdurahmonzoda, Chairperson of Darvoz District, for the total amount of US$ 112,268, will improve the condition of the hospital through performing necessary repair work on the existing Pediatrics Department building. The project also entails provision of a variety of novel medical equipment, which include X-ray apparatus and ultrasound scanner.

Grant Assistance for Grass-roots Human Security Projects (GGP) is provided to local governments, educational/ medical institutions and International NGOs in developing countries. GGP supports projects in the human security sectors at the grassroots level. To-date, GGP has supported 313 projects in the Republic of Tajikistan, for which more than US$ 24.6 million has been provided since 1996.
