DUSHANBE, March 28, 2014, Asia-Plus -- The introductory seminar on improvement of road maintenance in Tajikistan” was conducted in Dushanbe on March 27, 2014.

The seminar participants reportedly included representatives of the Ministry of Transport (MoT), Traffic Police and donor organizations.

This seminar has been organized by Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) under its technical assistance “Project for Improvement of Road Maintenance in Tajikistan”, which was launched in October 2013 and will be completed in July 2016 with the budget about 2.5 million USD.

Under the given projects the Japanese experts will conduct trainings on road inspection and repair for the employees of MoT and two State Establishments on Transport Management (SETM) of Qurghon Teppa and Hisor zones.

The overall goal of the project is to improve the pavement condition of the international and republican roads under the jurisdiction of Hisor SETM and Qurghon Teppa SETM.  The project will improve the road inspection and repairing skills of the employees of 9 State Enterprises on Road Maintenance (SERM) under Hisor SETM and 13 SERM under Qurghon Teppa.

During implementation of the project, JICA experts will also conduct TOT (Training of Trainers) trainings for the staff of the two abovementioned SETM for further transfer of obtained knowledge to their other staff.

According to JICA Office in Dushanbe, the abovementioned project is being realized in parallel with another JICA Grand Aid “Project for Improvement of Equipment for Road Maintenance in Khatlon Province and Districts Subordinate to the Center,” under which JICA delivers to MoT equipment and machinery for road maintenance.  The implementation of the given project started in March 2013 and will be completed in June 2015, with total budget 13.5 million USD.
