DUSHANBE, April 29, 2015, Asia-Plus -- Chairman of the Majlisi Milli (Tajikistan’s upper house of parliament) Mahmadsaid Ubaidulloyev yesterday received British Ambassador to Tajikistan Hugh Philpott at his request, an official source at the Majlisi Milli told Asia-Plus in an interview.
In the course of the talks, Tajik parliament speaker reportedly expressed confidence that a new British ambassador will take efforts to promote further expansion of bilateral cooperation between Tajikistan and the United Kingdom in various fields.
“Ubaidulloyev also proposed to consider issues of increasing the number of joint ventures operating in Tajikistan, quotas for Tajik student for studying at Oxford, Cambridge and the London School of Commerce as well as opening branches of British universities and lyceums in Tajikistan,” the source said.
According to him, the two also considered issues related to signing of an agreement between the two countries on cooperation in the fields of economics, science and technology.
Ubaidulloyev and Philpott also exchanged views on problems of regional security and the current situation in Afghanistan, the source said.
