DUSHANBE, July 13, 2015, Asia-Plus – Tajik President Emomali Rahmon and visiting Indian Prime Minister Narendra Damodardas Modi held talks here today to discuss state and prospects of further expansion of bilateral cooperation between their countries.

According to the Tajik president’s official website, Rahmon and Modi, in particular, discussed bilateral cooperation between Tajikistan and Indi in the fields of politics, security, energy, and defense.

Their one-on-one talks were reportedly followed by negotiations between official delegations in an enlarged format.

The negotiations resulted in signing of three documents: a joint statement on development of partnership; program of cooperation (PoC) between Ministries of Culture of Tajikistan and India in the field of culture for years 2016-2018; and exchange of note verbal (NV) on setting up computer labs in 37 schools in Tajikistan.

The PoC envisages cooperation in the field of culture through exchange of expertise in protection, preservation and promotion of cultural heritage in both countries, exchange of information and experts and organization of culture days in each other’s countries for greater cultural understanding between the countries.

The NV conveys the intention of Indian side to set up computer labs in 37 schools in Tajikistan for supporting Government of Tajikistan’s human resource and skill development efforts.  The NV also outlines responsibilities of both sides in implementing the project.

Tajikistan marks the last leg of Prime Minister Modi’s eight-day tour of the five Central Asian nations and Russia.  Indian Prime Minister Modi has already visited Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan, Kyrgyzstan in Central Asia besides attending the SCO and BRICS summits in Russia.
