The President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdymuhammedov signed a decree on movement and storage of radioactive waste from two large industrial enterprises, the “Khazar” chemical plant and “Balkanabat” iodine plant.
According to the document relevant works will be executed by Russian Company “Ecomet-S” by the order of “Turkmenhimiya” State Concern. 12.4 million dollars will be allocated for the work.
Environmental protection, rational and careful use of natural resources and creation of favorable conditions for human life is the priority of public policy of Turkmenistan. Just like any other state Turkmenistan faces inevitable problems that accompany rapid economic and industrial growth, and government tries to find optimal solutions for them.
Relevant documents that specify location of waste dumping, conditions for transportation and storage as well as timeframe for works implementation are ready, informed “Turkmenhimiya”. “Ecomet-S” possesses effective modern technologies and extensive experience in this field. All work will be done in consultation with the Ministry of Health and Medical Industry of Turkmenistan and the Ministry of Defense. Waste will be delivered the dumping site in special sealed containers. Adequate control will provide safety and long-term storage of the waste.
