DUSHANBE, August 25, Asia-Plus -- On Thursday August 25, visiting speaker of Russia’s upper chamber of parliament (Council of Federation) Sergey Mironov met with his Tajik counterpart, Chairman of the Majlisi Milli (Tajikistan’s upper chamber of parliament) Mahmadsaid Ubaidulloyev.  Their talks ended in signing of an agreement on cooperation between the Majlisi Milli and the Council of Federation.  

Speaking to journalists following the meeting, Ubaidulloyev noted that cooperation between the two countries was expanding well.  According to him, the signed agreement on long-term gave an opportunity to set up inter-parliament commission, which would be convoked once a year or two years.  

Sergey Mironov, for his part, noted that the inter-parliament commission would determine priorities and main directions between the countries.  “First of all, I mean strengthening of humanitarian cooperation and relationships between the regions of the two countries,” Russian speaker said. 

According to him, the first session of the commission is supposed to be held in Moscow or one of Russian regions next year.   “Of 86 Russian regions, 76 regions have signed cooperation agreements with Tajikistan,” said Mironov, “Now we should check which of these agreements are really working, because according to my data, 10 agreements just remained on the paper.”
