On September 18, Russian President Vladimir Putin held telephone conversations with the head of Kyrgyzstan Sadyr Japarov and the leader of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon, the Kremlin press service reported.
The press service of the President of Tajikistan reported that during the conversation, Emomali Rahmon and Vladimir Putin discussed topical issues of bilateral relations.
«The parties focused on the development of the situation in Central Asia in the context of the situation in the border regions of Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan»,— said in the press service.
Vladimir Putin also had a telephone conversation with President of Kyrgyzstan Sadyr Zhaparov.
Large-scale clashes on the border of Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan began on Friday morning. The parties accused each other of shelling. Fierce fighting between the military of the two countries lasted all day along almost the entire perimeter of the border. The cease-fire was reached only by nightfall.
Intermittent clashes resumed on Saturday morning. The parties accused each other of violating the ceasefire agreement. The shooting stopped only in the evening.
