Majlisi Milli (Tajikistan’s upper chamber of parliament) Speaker, Rustam Emomali on October 10 met here with Iranian Parliament Speaker, Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, who arrived in Dushanbe at the head of a parliamentary delegation to attend a conference dedicated to the 30th anniversary of Tajikistan’s Constitution and meet with Tajikistan’s top officials to discuss cooperation issues.
Iran’s media reports say the two lawmakers discussed and exchanged views on the development of relations between Tehran and Dushanbe, including parliamentary relations.
IRNA notes that in the course of the talks, Ghalibaf said that regional countries need to be strong in order to defend themselves from any potential attack by enemies. “Our strength should be to the extent that it stops the enemies from treating us harshly”, Iranian parliament speaker was cited as saying.
Iran Press cited Iranian parliament speaker as saying that the trip to Tajikistan is an opportunity to increase global pressure to cut off economic relations with the Israeli regime along with exerting political pressure on the regime.
While expressing happiness over his trip to Tajikistan, Ghalibaf reportedly thanked Emomali for extending official invitation to him.
Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf arrived in Dushanbe Wednesday (October 9) might. His visit to Tajikistan reportedly comes at the invitation of the Tajik Parliament to participate in an international parliamentary meeting celebrating the 30th anniversary of Tajikistan’s Basic Law.
Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf (born August 23, 1961) is an Iranian conservative politician, former military officer, and current Speaker of the Parliament of Iran since 2020. He held office as the Mayor of Tehran from 2005 to 2017. Ghalibaf was formerly Iran's Chief of police from 2000 to 2005 and commander of the Revolutionary Guards' Air Force from 1997 to 2000.
