DUSHANBE, March 16, 2011, Asia-Plus -- On Wednesday March 16, Mr. Yoshihiro Nakayama, Chargé d’Affaires of the Embassy of Japan in Dushanbe, and Mr. Shamsuddin Qurbonov, Director of Tajik Scientific Research Institute of Obstetrics, Gynecology and Perinatology, signed a grant contract for “The Project for Provision of Medical Equipment to Tajik Scientific Research Institute of Obstetrics, Gynecology and Perinatology” for the total amount of US$ 104,900.
According to Japanese Embassy in Dushanbe, the project will be supported by the Government of Japan in the framework of Japanese Grant Assistance for the Grass–roots Human Security Projects (GGP).
Tajik scientific research institute of obstetrics, gynecology and perinatology is the supportive medical facility in delivering, which provides specialized treatment of obstetrics, gynecology and perinatology to the mothers and new-born infants in Tajikistan.
Despite the increasing number of preterm birth cases in Tajikistan, only the resuscitation department of the institute is ready for accepting and conducting treatment to new-born infants in urgent need. Due to lack of medical equipment, the capacity of the department is very limited, which results in the difficulty to provide appropriate medical treatment.
Through the project, new medical equipment such as artificial lung ventilation apparatuses, spray batchers and phototherapy device will be installed to the resuscitation department in the institute. It is expected that provision of quality medical service to new-born infants and women will strongly support the improvement of their health condition, ensuring their human basic rights to healthy life.
Grant Assistance for Grass-roots Human Security Projects (GGP) is provided to local governments, educational / medical institutions and International NGOs in developing countries. GGP supports projects in the human security sectors at the grassroots level. GGP has extended more than US$ 19.3 million for 267 projects in the Republic of Tajikistan since 1996.
