Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) Tajikistan Office has recently announced the following notable agreements.
These agreements mark significant step forward in reinforcing the partnership between Tajikistan and Japan. By fostering mutual collaboration, these agreements lay the groundwork for sustainable, self-reliant development, ensuring long-term benefits for both countries.
1. Grant Aid for the “Project for the Improvement of Water Supply System in Jomi District, Khatlon Region”
The Grant Agreement for the Implementation of the “Project for the Improvement of Water Supply System in Jomi District, Khatlon Region” was signed between the Minister of Finance of the Republic of Tajikistan, Mr. Qahhorzoda Fayziddin Sattor and the Chief Representative of Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) Tajikistan Office, Mr. Imai Seiju.
The Project aims to improve the water supply service in Jomi district through the construction and expansion of water supply facilities. Being a part of JICA's ongoing water supply improvement program, the project will run simultaneously with the Technical Cooperation Project to maximize the program’s synergies between capacity strengthening of water suppliers and the water supply infrastructures. The project will be implemented by the State Unitary Enterprise “Khojagii Manziliyu Kommunali” during 2024-2029.
2. Grant Aid “The Project for Human Resource Development Scholarship (JDS)” for the next period
Similarly, the Grant Agreement for the Implementation of “The Project for Human Resource Development Scholarship (JDS)” for the next periods was also signed between the Minister of Finance of the Republic of Tajikistan, Mr Qahhorzoda Fayziddin Sattor and the Chief Representative of JICA Tajikistan Office, Mr. Imai Seiju.
The Project for Human Resources Development Scholarship (JDS) is designed to support the capacity development of young Tajik governmental officials, with a focus on preparing them for leadership roles in economic and social development. JDS fellows pursue Master’s and Doctoral degrees in some of the top Japanese Universities in English language. The fellows, receive the cutting-edge knowledge, build valuable networks with their peers from other countries and strengthen the ties between Tajikistan and Japan.
3. Record of Discussion for Technical Cooperation Project “The Project for Vitalization of Local Business in Central Asia Through One Village One Product Movement”
The Record of Discussion for the launch of the “Project for Vitalization of Local Business in Central Asia Through One Village One Product Movement” was signed between First Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Economic Development and Trade of the Republic of Tajikistan, Mr. Solehzoda Ashusrboy Abduvohid and the Chief Representative of JICA Tajikistan Office, Mr. Imai Seiju.
The project aims to modernize and commercialize high-quality agricultural products from rural Tajikistan and sell them both domestically and internationally. This will contribute to an improvement in the livelihood of people living in the area. The duration of the project is four (4) years.
4. Record of Discussion for Technical Cooperation Project “Small Business Incubation Project”
The Record of Discussion for the launch of the “Small Business Incubation Project” was signed between the Deputy Chairperson of State Committee on Investments and State Property Management of the Republic of Tajikistan, Ms. Khurshedai Qodir and the Chief Representative of JICA Tajikistan Office, Mr. Imai Seiju. The project is expected to be implemented in collaboration with the State Institution “Business Incubator” under State Committee on Investments and State Property Management and will contribute to the creation of jobs for youth, women and start-ups through a series of business-oriented trainings and mentoring sessions followed by a small grants program. The project Duration is four (4) years.
5. Record of Discussion for Technical Cooperation Project “The Project for Strengthening the Implementation Capacity of Water Supply Services through Introduction of Volumetric Flow Meter in Tajikistan”
The Record of Discussion was signed between the Director-General of the State Unitary Enterprise “Khojagii Manziliyu Kommunali”, Mr. Davlatzoda Usmon Gul and the Chief Representative of JICA Tajikistan Office, Mr. Imai Seiju. to mutually agree on the implementation of the Project to disseminate the Metered Tariff System model nationwide in the target water utilities companies (Vodokanals) in Pyanj, Khamadoni, Jomi and Vakhsh districts. The duration of the Project is four (4) years.
The Project aims to strengthen the capacity of water service suppliers by providing training courses in Japan regarding the Operation and Maintenance of water facilities for the Metering Tariff System.
Memorandum of Cooperation between JICA Tajikistan Office and Tajik National University on implementation of JICA Chair (JICA Program for Japanese Studies)
Tajik National University (TNU) and JICA Tajikistan Office formalized their collaboration through a Memorandum of Cooperation (MoC) focused on the JICA Chair program signed by Rector of TNU, Mr. Nasriddinzoda Emomali Saifiddin and the Chief Representative of Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) Tajikistan Office, Mr. Imai Seiju.
The MoC outlines several key objectives aimed at bolstering academic and research collaboration between Tajikistan and Japan. It includes hosting short-term lectures by prominent Japanese researchers, launching the JICA Chair program to explore Japan's development experiences, conducting joint research, and sharing educational resources. The agreement also seeks to strengthen ties between Japanese and Tajikistan institutions.
It should be noted that a few months ago, JICA and Japan Science and Technology Agency (JST) jointly organized explanatory seminar of “Science and Technology Research Partnership for Sustainable Development” (SATREPS) in Dushanbe aiming at further contributions to research and academic cooperation.
